Strolling
around the streets of Colombo, my attention was caught by a cobra
charmer, squatted under the shadow of a palm tree in front of two
wicker baskets.
Apparently,
the swinging movements of his flute were of more interest to the two
snakes than the hypnotic melody.
Sometimes,
as if the spell was suddenly broken, the cobras would quickly spring
towards the hand of the man who, even quicker, would grab them and put
them back in their baskets, acting in the most natural way and with
no apparent fear.
The
little monkey attending the performance didn't feel that safe,
though, and made sure to keep at a distance, glancing nervously
around.
